My last day of driving took me through Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. I stopped in Mobile, Alabama to stretch my legs at about 8:00 a.m., then for lunch with an old friend just after noon in New Orleans. The route, mainly along Highway 10, included the Gulf Coast of Florida and Alabama, the soggy bayous of Eastern Louisiana, a ferocious rainstorm in Western Louisiana, and the vast, cloud-shrouded urban expanse of Houston, Texas' largest cities and America's fourth largest.
The pictures are as follows: Leaving Destin, Florida (1). Mobile (2-5). Bridge over the bayou (6). Rainstorm (7). Giant ninja star embedded in the ground welcoming me back to Texas (8). Houston (9).
